Protection and conservation actions for the Niau kingfisher (Todiramphus gambieri) supervised by SOP Manu were carried out from 2014 to 2018 in consultation with the members of Vaitamae, the local association for the protection of the bird. They dedicated themselves to raising public awareness, counting the birds, monitoring their reproduction, protecting the nests and feeding areas and controlling the cats on the atoll.
