The Notre-Dame de Beauvoir chapel has dominated the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department since the end of the 12th century. Once known for its arousals, which allegedly allowed stillborn infants to come back to life and go to heaven during their baptism, it is accessible via a stone staircase of 262 steps rising up the hillside. Followed by numerous visitors, it has been marked since 1860 by fourteen Stations of the Cross decorated with earthenware tiles emblematic of local crafts.
