The island of Bagaud was listed as a wilderness area by a decree of May 9, 2007, along with the islets of Gabinière and Rascas. This classification, which covers the emerged part of these territories, prohibits the disembarkation, mooring to the coast, penetration, and movement of any public, except for scientists and people responsible for the restoration and management of the sites. Access to the island is subject to authorization from the Scientific Council of the Port-Cros National Park, of which the island of Bagaud is part. The classification of certain parts of a national park as wilderness areas guarantees greater protection of the fauna and flora. It also allows scientists to measure the evolution of the environment without human disturbance.
