A wild and uncrowded beach

This aerial shot shows the southern extremity of Anse Grosse Roche beach and the rocky point that ends it. This wild and uncrowded beach stretches for several miles along the southern Atlantic coast of Martinique and owes its name to the large rock with a heart-shaped hole that borders it to the north. Anse Grosse Roche is part of the Grand Macabou domain, a natural site protected for its national forest and its fauna (crabs, hermit crabs, etc.) which connects Cap Macré to Cap Macabou. It is exposed to trade winds and Atlantic swells that make swimming more dangerous than in more sheltered areas. As for its beach, it is often covered with sargassum, pelagic and rootless algae brought by ocean currents.
