A wide palette of shades
0
0
The Luberon ochres display a varied palette of shades ranging from pale yellow to bright red through all shades of orange. Such diversity differs from what their name, derived from the Greek word okhra (yellow earth), suggests. The variety of natural shades originates from goethite, a mineral pigment that turns into hematite after firing in ovens, another iron oxide coloring the ochres in red.
