With Omaha Beach, Utah Beach is one of the two beaches used by US soldiers during the landing of June 6, 1944. Because of its hinterland made up of marshes and deemed less adapted to an Allied landing by the German command, Utah Beach was less defended. The US soldiers took it within two hours while suffering few losses. This victory constituted the first good news for the US headquarters as thousands of soldiers died or suffered wounds on Omaha Beach.
