The vineyards of the Montagne de Reims cover 8,000 hectares of chalky soil. It is one of the four terroirs of Champagne with the Vallée de la Marne (Marne Valley), the Côte des Blancs, and the Côte des Bar. The terroir of the Montagne de Reims is the largest of all the Champagne terroirs. It mainly occupies shallow hillsides around a plateau which culminates in Mont Sinaï (Mount Sinai) at an altitude of 286 metres. Although its slopes face north, they benefit from the heat of the day, which falls in the evening, creating a temperate climate ideal for the vines.
