The locality of Lauzerte is perched on a hill of the Quercy Blanc. As a bastide created in the 12th century by Count Raymond VI of Toulouse, Lauzerte stands on the Via Podiensis, one of the paths to Compostela. The village is home to numerous testimonies of its medieval and religious past, such as the central square and its old paving, stone or half-timbered houses, and the Jardin du Pèlerin (Pilgrim's Garden). In the heart of the medieval town, the garden forms a human-size goose game based on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
