The Lower Rhine village of Orschwiller extends on the border with Upper Rhine. It is renowned both for standing on the Alsace Wine Route and its proximity with the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle uphill. The inhabitants of Orschwiller are nicknamed Gugugg (cuckoos). According to a legend, a villager once heard a bird singing cuckoo cuckoo. He was so delighted by this sound that he told the story to the village's priest, who organized a procession in the forest nearby to honor the bird.
