A village of artists

At the start of the 20th century, the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, until then isolated on a rocky outcrop, was opened up by the creation in 1911 of a tram line linking Cagnes to Vence and serving Saint-Paul. The intensity of the colors and the light of the village then began to attract painters such as Paul Signac, Raoul Dufy, or Chaïm Soutine, followed by Matisse, Picasso, and Chagall. They enjoyed meeting at Paul Roux's, a painter, collector, and owner of the Robinson which, in 1932, became the iconic Colombe d'Or inn.
