A viewpoint towering the beach

The Normandy American Cemetery is located at the top of the cliff overlooking Omaha Beach. No one enters this cemetery by chance; it must be voluntary. The marble-white crosses all face Westward, towards the country where the soldiers, buried here, were born. This green haven is an invitation to contemplate and remember. At the end of the necropolis, on the sea side, a viewpoint towers the beach; there, an orientation table retraces the general plan of the Normandy landings on the five beaches, whose code names have gone down in history: Sword, Juno, Gold, Utah, and Omaha. The trail leading from the viewpoint down to the beach, now closed to the public, is the same that was used by American soldiers on D-Day, for their inland advance.
