A picturesque excursion place, the caves of Baume-les-Messieurs in Jura have been open to visitors for more than a century, following their exploration in 1893. They have been very popular with visitors since the beginning of the 20th century. They are accessible on foot from the village by a small path along the left bank of the Dard river or from the large parking lot located two minutes from their entrance. Forty-five-minute guided tours around the five main rooms are offered from April to September and require you to put on warm clothes, the temperature inside the caves neighbouring 55°F (13°C).
