A very modern room

Up until the 17th century, castles did not provide a room dedicated to dining. Trestles and boards were laid out as needed. Not until the reign of Louis XV did the use of dining rooms become widespread. To own one became a sign of wealth, for a dining room allowed you to receive your guests in a refined setting. That of the Château du Haut de Villarceaux features a large painted wooden table, which imitates marble. The crystal chandelier, the red leather chairs, the gilded wooden barometer, and the wine cooler are all part of the desire to show a certain standing.
