The Domaine d’Esthine perpetuates the Cotentin donkey breed (Equus asinus), which was officially recognised by the French Ministry of Agriculture in August 1997. Given its docility and morphology, this donkey is perfectly suited to load transport and harnessing. Up until the last century, the Cotentin donkey was used to carry cows' milk jugs on its back. Nowadays, this helpful and very intelligent donkey accompanies hikers on the small paths of the Norman bocage.
