A vegetal richness described in the 19th century

Located between the Alps and the Mediterranean, the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Montagne de Lure benefit from a unique climate highly conducive to the presence of varied and singular plant species and associations. From this exceptional richness, described at the end of the 19th century by the botanist Théodore Coste, was born a whole succession of trades attached to the Forcalquier region, from the first herb gatherers on the Montagne de Lure to the great distillers of today like Alain Robert (photo) through drug peddlers and apothecaries. The specialties made from Lure plants are most often beverages with depurative, tonic, refreshing, digestive, or aperitif properties.
