Known as Camargo in the Provençal dialect, Camargue is a natural region located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea across the Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard departments. It forms a paralic wetland of 370,660 acres (150,000 ha) home to highly diverse fauna and flora. Since the 19th century, the region has been listed as a biosphere reserve and regional nature park. The points of the triangle formed by this territory of preserved natural areas are Arles, Le Grau-du-Roi, and Fos-sur-Mer. Camargue is divided into three distinct parts: the Grande Camargue between the two arms of the Rhône, the Petite Camargue in the Gard, and the Plan du Bourg east of the Grand Rhône.
