Between the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var departments, the Sainte-Baume forests extend continuously over a total of 112,000 acres (45,000 ha) between 492 and 3,772 ft (150 and 1,150 m) above sea level. They include municipal forests and private forests such as those of Saint-Cassien or Font Mauresque. The national forest of the massif covers 5,130 acres (2,076 ha) between 1,049 and 3,763 ft (320 and 1,147 m) above sea level from the springs of the Huveaune to the Plan d'Aups plateau via the ridges. Renowned for its beech and oak groves which have been preserved for centuries, it benefits from a very high degree of naturalness.
