With its alpine relief and steep slopes, Puy de Sancy offers a vast area for ski touring, especially on the North side with the very steep Val de Courre. To the West, the wild sector of the Fontaine Salée offers the only refuge accessible in winter. The Southern slope, with a less marked relief, allows a departure from the Col de la Geneste towards the Paillaret. Finally, on the East side, the skiers can venture out to the former resort of Chambon-des-Neiges, which borders the Chaudefour valley.
