Covering approximately 193 square miles (500 km²), Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The area comprises the largest expanse of polders and salt marshes in France. From Granville to Cancale, the bay experiences the highest tidal coefficient in Europe, with a tidal range above 46 ft (14 m). Paths leading pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela still crisscross it, and it is home to a great diversity of fauna and flora influenced by its unique light.
