Loup Garou islet is a unique model of primitive Caribbean beaches. Located in Baie du Robert about 5.5 miles (9 km) east of the town and 2.4 miles (4 km) from the coast, this ovoid islet with an area of 4.7 acres (1.9 ha) is actually a very white and fine sandbank resting on a layer of madreporic (i.e. coralline) rocks. It takes the form of a central reef surrounded by white sand beaches. It consists of a sub-horizontal summit plateau attached to the coast by moderately inclined slopes. Access to Loup Garou islet is made dangerous by the presence of strong currents of the Atlantic Ocean, from which it is not protected due to its remote position in Baie du Robert.
