Place François Rude - named after a famous Dijon sculptor - is more commonly known as Place du Bareuzai. It owes its nickname and fame to the rosy stockings of the statue of a picker trampling the grapes which has stood on its central fountain since 1904. This work by sculptor Noël-Jules Girard recalls the wine-growing history of the region. It was erected shortly after a disaster that almost decimated the Burgundy vineyard.
