In Robert Marichy's woodturning workshop in Arinthod in the Jura department, nothing seems to have changed for almost a century. His wood lathe is still placed on a workbench - called ‘banc’ in French - made up of two square wooden bars which we imagine supported by two butted arched feet possibly sealed in the soil. Between the wooden bars, we can see the spacing intended for the lathe ; its width varies depending on the size of the machine.
