The Fonderie Cornille-Havard in Villedieu-les-Poêles perpetuates the bell foundry tradition initiatied by the family in 1865. The manufacturing workshop consists of two large ovens separated by a 72 ft (22 m) high chimney. Flames 6.56 to 10 ft (2 to 3 m) high escape from it in order to reach the melting temperature of bronze at 2,102°F (1,150°C). Bells weighing more than 1,102 lbs (500 kg) are cast upside down at the Fonderie Cornille-Havard to ensure higher solidity and musicality.
