The Comtois horse is traditionally a traction horse historically used in the Jura region for skidding mountain timber, transporting trunks and various other forestry work such as extracting logs from lands difficult to access by tractors. Horses of the Comtois breed are renowned for their ability to tow a weight of one ton.
