A town hall rebuilt in the 17th century

0
Since the 14th century, the town hall of Aix-en-Provence has been adjoining the city's belfry or clock tower. It was rebuilt between 1655 and 1678 based on plans by the architect Pierre Pavillon, assisted by the sculptors Jean-Claude Rambot and Jacques Fossé. The town hall's facade, inspired by Italian palaces, borders one side of the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville and faces a monumental fountain decorated by Jean-Pancrace Chastel and surmounted by a Roman column from the former count's palace. Aix-en-Provence's flower market is held three times a week outside its doors.
