The toy museum opened in Moirans-en-Montagne in June 1989. It has one of the finest French and European collections in a town which also has a vocational school in the wood industry. The image of the town went successively from 'Bibiville' (the place of manufacture of the 'Bibi’, a small cylindrical whistle in turned wood) in the 1930s to 'Toy City' in the 1960s then 'French capital of wooden toys' in the 90s and finally, a town-center of the 'Country of the Child'.
