The Explorers
The central tower of Fort des Salettes is surrounded by a moat and a counter-escarp gallery accessible only by an underground passage from the tower. Like the tower, this gallery is equipped with rifle slots that make it possible to take the enemy under two different fire directions. The building in imposing freestone masonry housed a hundred soldiers and what was necessary for their subsistence.
