A thousand-year-old heritage
The fishing village of Collioure is a typical Catalan port with significant maritime and architectural heritage. The locality is also renowned for its medieval past symbolized by its old enclosure and has attracted many artists over the years, such as Matisse, Derain, and Picasso. Known as the pearl of the Côte Vermeille, Collioure is filled with small pedestrian streets displaying architectural details that testify to their different occupations over the centuries. The city-monument displays a thousand-year-old heritage linked to the Romans, Louis XIV, the Saracens, and the kings of Majorca.
