A thoroughly protected coastline

The Maures coast is punctuated by capes and rocky islets like those extending off Cap Camarat. It conceals a high-quality natural heritage and a remarkably rich seabed where drop-offs and caves alternate with Posidonia meadows and coralligenous beds. The Maures coast constitutes one of the most unspoiled areas on the French Mediterranean seaboard. Several of its natural sites are protected by the Coastal Protection Agency, and most of its area is identified as Natural Zones of Ecological Interest, Fauna and Flora (ZNIEFF) and recognized as Natura 2000 zones of community interest.
