A territory dedicated to wood turning
2
0
An activity still very prosperous in the second half of the 20th century, woodturning provided a living for many businesses and families in the ‘Petite Montagne’ of Jura before a significant decline over the past ten years in both the number of craftsmen and this turning work that Robert Marichy continues to embody. This 49 miles (80 km) long by 18 miles (30 km) wide territory, considered for centuries THE woodturning area, nevertheless had between 8,000 and 9,000 turners between the two wars, a density which was probably unique in the world.
