Between Aiguilles and the Maison du Roi dam in the Hautes-Alpes department, the Guil is renowned as technical and challenging by whitewater sports enthusiasts. Its steep drop with an average slope of 3 % and its class III to V rapids attract the most experienced kayakers in Europe. They particularly appreciate the natural moat at the foot of the medieval castle of Château-Queyras, the succession of rapids in the Combe de l'Ange Gardien, and the triple falls of La Chapelue.
