A symbolic door leading to the Chapel of the Tomb was opened on the occasion of the 1,300th anniversary of the death of Sainte Odile. It is engraved with the oldest Romanesque floral decorations in the sanctuary, dating from the 10th century. The roses on each side symbolize purity and love in a circle that represents the sun. This motif became widespread in Gothic art, particularly within the stained-glass windows favored by cathedrals' builders.
