Erected in the middle of the 15th century (1450-1460) by the architect Jean Poncelet, the Tour Philippe le Bon dominates the center of the Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne (Palace of the Dukes and States of Burgundy) in Dijon from the top of its 150 ft (46 m). A true symbol of ducal prestige and power, it offers a view over the roofs of the city at the end of the ascent on foot of the 316 steps of its spiral staircase with rich ornaments (vine branch, acanthus leaves, snails, emblematic lighter and flint of the duke). Between June and October, the city's Tourist Office organizes panoramic and regional aperitifs on Friday and Saturday evenings at the top of the tower.
