Saint-Pierre Cathedral in Lisieux is the only survivor of the bombardments of World War II. It is believed that it was built between 1160 and 1230 by Bishop Arnoul after he returned from a crusade with King Louis VII. From 1432 to 1442, the cathedral was managed by Bishop Cauchon, notorious for having sentenced Joan of Arc to the stake in 1431. Thérèse of Lisieux later came to pray there during her youth. Saint-Pierre Cathedral is one of the first Gothic buildings in Normandy.
