The Valensole plateau is a vast tabular plane inclined from northeast to southwest and sheared by a series of valleys converging towards the Colostre valley. It is bounded to the north by the Asse, to the south by the Verdon, to the west by the Durance and ends to the east on the foothills of the Montdenier massif. Located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence at an average altitude of 1,640 feet (500 meters), it takes its name from vallis (valley) and solis (sun).
