Cap Bénat occupies a strategic position between the bays of Bormes-les-Mimosas to the east and Hyères to the west. It makes it possible to control the access to the harbor of Hyères, which it closes to the east, and the traffic to the islands of Hyères it faces. Marine batteries, still partially visible, were previously installed on the points of Cap Bénat and Cap Blanc, as well as a semaphore at the top of the peninsula. These military installations are now disused.
