A stone bell tower on a wooden church

Sainte-Catherine-des-Bois Church in Honfleur was built in the 12th century and later destroyed by the English invasions. It was rebuilt in 1468 by carpenters from shipbuilding who gave it the shape of an upside-down boat and named it Sainte-Catherine d'Honfleur. A second nave was added in 1496. Built separately, the bell tower rises above the bell ringer's small house. The only stone building of the church, it is square and surmounted by an octagonal pyramid covered with chestnut tiles. Props were placed in 1718 as the monument threatened to collapse under the weight of the bells.
