Located west of the facade of the Saint-Michel basilica, the Campanin built between 1701 and 1703 is inseparable from the image of the old Menton. It dominates the historic city of which it has become the emblem while playing the role of civic tower. Its first square-planned level is completed by a terrace surmounted by cylindrical sections of different diameters. Put in perspective by a masonry ramp connecting Rue Longue to Place Saint-Michel, the Campanin rises to 173 ft (53 m).
