Mostly present in northeastern France, Comtois draft horses have become symbols of the Franche-Comté region as well as Switzerland. A museum is dedicated to the breed in Levier, in the Lison valley of the Doubs department. Comtois horses are particularly highlighted in breeding competitions, and their opulent light mane and long tail are artistically braided. The Salon du Cheval and the Salon de l'Agriculture give them pride of place, as well as the Journée du Cheval de Trait (Draft Horse Day) in La Courneuve and the Equita'Lyon.
