A spruce forest on a peat bog
1
0
The spruce forest bordering Lake Servières in the Puy-de-Dôme department sits at an altitude of 3,937 ft (1,200 m). It extends on a rounded peat bog, typical of humid and cold climates with its waterlogged subsoil. The raw humus and the particularly acidic peat (pH close to 3) form a soil of sufficient thickness for the root system of the spruces, which spreads on 7.8 to 11.8 in (20 to 30 cm).
