A spire that dominates the Hospices de Beaune

A spire rising nearly 164 ft (50 m) above the ground signals the entrance to the Hospices de Beaune in the Côte-d'Or department. Surmounted by a cross, it is protected by an awning and dominates the imposing slate roof of the building. This monochrome roof was restored between 2007 and 2009 and its finials were gilded with leaf. It contrasts with the multicolored roofs of the Hôtel-Dieu, which have become a flamboyant symbol of Burgundy.
