A specific breed of horse

In France, Pur-Sang, formerly specified Anglais, is a distinct horse breed even though the term Pur-Sang theoretically applies to any purebred animal in French. The French word Pur-Sang refers to animals that have never been crossed with other breeds since their origin. It corresponds to the translation of the English term Thoroughbred which is never used for other breeds or species and refers specifically to the Pur-Sang Anglais horse. In English, breeders of other pureblood animal breeds generally use the term purebreed.
