Large-flowered jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum) serves for the manufacture of the precious and rare absolute that enters the composition of the most prestigious perfumes. Workers need to pick some 8,000 flowers to make a kilogram, and about 1,763 lbs (800 kg) of fresh flowers are needed to obtain a kilogram of concrete that will give 1.3 lbs (600 g) of jasmine absolute after transformation. The baskets of jasmine flowers fill up slowly, flower after flower, at a rate of 0.7 lbs (350 g) of flowers per hour, representing a harvest of 4.4 lbs (2 kg) per morning of work.
