A significant Viking heritage

Although the region has been occupied since prehistoric times, Cap Lévi owes its name to the Vikings. The toponymic study of Val de Saire, from La Hougue to Pointe du Brick, leaves no doubt about the Viking influence in the 10th century, as they marked the coast with landmarks like chapels. The name of Cap Lévi results from the deformation of kapel and vik (cove). The English King Henry II gallicized the site into Cap Lévi in 1177.
