A shrunken and urbanized estate

The vast and isolated Domaine du Rayol initially acquired by Alfred Courmes at the beginning of the 20th century was amputated in the 1920s when Alfred Courmes seized the opportunity offered by the creation of a seaside resort in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer. The large villa was sold, and the company La Terre de France set up a residential subdivision that redefined the estate's boundaries and prefigured the urbanization of its area. The Courmes only lived for five years in their patrician villa, considered too large, sound, exposed, and little functional, before settling, far from the real estate bustle, in the more modest and intimate Rayolet Villa, east of the property.
