A showcase for Rhineland art
1
0
When it opened in 1853, the Unterlinden Museum of Colmar was limited to the space of the chapel, where a large part of the collections were hung. But little by little, the works ended up occupying the entire surface of the former convent. The Unterlinden Museum is renowned as a showcase for Rhineland art in France, with its remarkable collections of paintings and sculptures from the 15th and 16th centuries, a period during which the Upper Rhine experienced a golden age. Sections on archaeology, folk art and traditions, as well as decorative art and modern art complete the Rhine collections.
