A short stay at the Louvre

Stored in Bayeux, the tapestry moved to the Louvre, then called Napoleon Museum, on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte. Arriving on December 6, 1803, it left on February 18, 1804. No one knows why the embroidery only stayed on display for such a short period before returning to Bayeux. First exhibited every December in the town hall, it found its place in a permanent exhibition hall in 1842 before a dedicated museum opened in 1913.
