A secret garden of altitude

0
Xonrupt-Longemer is home to the altitude garden of Haut Chitelet. It is perched at 4,000 ft (1 228 m), south of the Col de la Schlucht in the Vosges moutains. More than 2,500 plant species grow in this cold area, grouped by geographic origin. The Vosges and Alpine flora are the best represented. The garden also comprises a vast peaty area that is fully protected. Thanks to the pollens trapped in the successive layers of plants, scientists can study and understand climate change.
