By the turn of the 20th century, jeweller René Lalique had achieved worldwide success with his Art Nouveau jewellery. After meeting perfumer François Coty, he embarked on a new career as a glassmaker. The Lalique crystal factory in Wingen-sur-Moder, Alsace, has been mass-producing tableware, decorative objects, and perfume bottles since 1921. The Lalique Museum, which opened in July 2011 in the same town, exhibits around 650 pieces created by René Lalique and his successors. It is the only museum in Europe specifically dedicated to Lalique.
