Ménerbes, in the Vaucluse department, is a rural village home to 1,000 inhabitants in 2018 after having experienced a population peak in the 19th century, with a record of 1,812 inhabitants in 1851, and a drop to 775 inhabitants after the Second World War (1946). Its population density of 33 inhabitants per square kilometer is low. Located outside the attraction area of the neighboring cities, it is, however, part of the urban unit of Avignon, distant some 25 miles (40 kilometers). This inter-regional conurbation brought together 59 municipalities and more than 455,000 inhabitants in 2017.
